Course Details

From September 2025, the updated EYFS statutory framework introduces new Paediatric First Aid requirements for early years providers. This Full Paediatric First Aid course equips staff with the skills to respond quickly and effectively to emergencies involving infants and children. The course is fully aligned with EYFS 2025 and Ofsted guidance.

  • Duration: 12 Hours (Blended: E‑learning + Classroom)
  • Certificate validity: 3 Years
  • Assessment: Practical Assessment and MCQs
  • Course requirements: No prior first aid knowledge needed; minimum age 14 years; physically able to carry out practical elements; comfortable clothing recommended; a smartphone or tablet is required to scan QR codes for the test.

  • Roles & responsibilities of a Paediatric First Aider
  • Safe scene assessment & prioritising actions
  • Effective communication with children & infants
  • Primary & Secondary Survey (DR ABC)
  • Recording & reporting incidents
CPR, AED & Recovery
  • Infant & child CPR with manikin practice
  • Safe use of AED on paediatric casualties
  • Knowing when to start and stop CPR
  • Placing infants/children in the recovery position & monitoring breathing
Choking, Seizures & Medical Emergencies
  • Identifying & treating partial and complete airway obstruction
  • Hands-on choking response using manikins/vests
  • Recognising seizure types and managing seizures
  • Post-incident care and escalation
Wounds, Bleeding & Shock
  • First aid for minor injuries: cuts, grazes, bruises, nosebleeds, burns & splinters
  • Controlling bleeding (minor to severe)
  • Optional: tourniquet & wound packing for catastrophic bleeding
  • Managing shock & recognising life-threatening injuries

Practical information

  • What to bring: ID, comfortable clothing, any personal medication, smartphone or tablet for test scanning.
